The article presents analytical studies of international and Russian experience in the development of turbo-compound systems and prospects for their development in order to increase the operational and economic parameters of the reciprocating internal combustion engine (ICE) for various purposes. The analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of the application of the turbo-compound systems is performed. The results of tests of a turbocharger with a reversible electric machine (REM) as part of a diesel engine are presented. It is shown that a turbocharger with REM includes the best qualities of an electric turbo-compound and an electric compressor, and can become an alternative to turbocompound systems.

Conversion of middle-speed diesel engines to operation on natural gas is a relevant issue because these engines consume a lot of fuel during their life cycle. Two basic methods of conversion of diesel engines were examined: gas engines operating on a lean mixture and gas diesel engines. Comparative analysis of parameters of diesel, gas and gas diesel middle-speed engine was carried out using a simulation model developed in MADI which was calibrated by the results of experimental research and some calculations using a three-zone model. Transfer from diesel cycle to gas and gas diesel cycle resulted in considerable decrease of fuel consumption and emissions of particles and NOx. Middle-speed gas engine was found to be most suitable for electric energy generation and gas diesel
engine – for transport application.

The article is devoted to the description of biophysical approaches to the nitrite-less processing of meat for the preparation of sausages. The method is implemented by the complete removal of intracellular oxygen due to the activation of mitochondrial respiration, as well as elimination of calcium and iron ions in the process of producing minced meat. As a result, lipid peroxidation, denaturation and autolysis were decreased. The technology is implemented by replacing nitrites, phosphates and artificial preservatives by a number of natural metabolites: di-tricarboxylic acids, anti-oxygen buffers, natural antioxidants and oligo-peptide protectors that are absolutely harmless to the human body. Application of the technology leads to a sharp improvement in the quality of meat products and a significant lengthening of their storage, as well as a decrease in gastrointestinal and oncological diseases. The work was supported by grants from the Russian Foundation for Basic Research, 04-04-08146 (2004–2006) and RFBR-Minnauka 04-04-97269 p2004 naukograd_a (2004–2006). The development was awarded the gold medals of the exhibitions «Archimedes-2006» and «High Technologies of the XXI Century-2006». The job won the competition «Business of Innovative Technologies-2006» and the Competition of Russian Innovations in the nomination «Best Consumer Innovation-2007». The development team was recognized as the winner of the «START-2007» program. The technologyof ecologically clean nitrite-less processing was awarded by the medal of the contest «Environmentally Safe Technologies» and received certificate No. 972.
